A Question for Representative Raymond Palatino of The Philippines
A Question for Representative Raymond Palatino
Mr. Palatino:
You are quoted as being critical of the Impeachment Trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona. You stated that “the Impeachment Trail cannot feed the People.”
I don’t know of anyone who suggests that The Impeachment Trial is taking place in lieu of feeding the People. It does not have to be an “either/or” choice. A Country as free, independent and great as The Philippines is, can and should do both.
Are you suggesting that if Your Legislature impeaches the Chief Justice that it is choosing to “Impeach” rather than to “feed?”
Any Country is in a better position to feed its people in the intermediate and long run with a Political System that is functioning. Whether Corona is ultimately “dismissed or not,” the Process of Impeachment is a vital, necessary and appropriate part of the Political Process of running a modern, democratic and stable Government. A Government that does not have the ability to impeach or chooses not to impeach because it has different priorities is a Government that will be weaker in the long run and less able to feed its people.
The Philippines can and should do both. The Government should exercise its Constitutional Right to function and develop Systems to improve the health, welfare, safety and freedom of its People. This process will lead to more food on the table for all.
You should be thankful that your Constitution gives you this right and that the Independent Branches of Government are exercising these rights. A free and democratic Philippines will be better equipped to feed its people than a Philippines that chooses to ignore both its democratic process and the Powers that this Process gives to this great nation.
